After Open-House Exhibits we'll post some of the finished illustrations and best direct drawings from this class onto the Blog. One day, with Alan as the Model - wearing his ordinary clothes - our challenge was to transform him into a woman with each pose. He was a good 'sport' as some turned him into old ladies at a tea party, French maids, 'trailer trash', and slim young girls. We had to become very conscious of what Gender-Specific gestures were needed...some of which were a hard task for Alan (like: knees together!).
We draw directly from live models, each clothed in costumes from our extensive Costume Collection. Sometimes the models are placed in narrative settings, and sometimes the students are asked to create a narrative setting around the costumed figure. Sometimes image "clippings" from various sources are offered to the students, such as architecture, furniture, props, even other characters that might appear in a narrative setting, to inspire students' compositions. Once a month, they choose one of their classwork drawings and fully develop it, in medium of their choice, into a complete narrative illustration.

edpgarden@yahoo.com,
My career since I graduated from RISD in 1961 and '64...! has encompassed Fashion Illustration, Exhibition Design, Product Development, Children's Books and Games, The Advertising Industry,
Editorial Magazines, Natural Science Renderings, Graphic Design, Costume Design for Theater, Dance and Opera, and recently , Landscape Drawing and Painting. My favorite classes to teach are...all the one's that they let me teach! Recently opening an Art Gallery in Wenham to exhibit many different themes, both Fine Art AND Illustration...
I'm always interested in meeting new artists...beginning or established. I'll look at art thru dvd's, Slides, or in person...you can literally drop in for a review. If we 'click', I'll make a Studio Visit. You'll find that many of my planned shows are 'Group' or 'Partnered'...YOU may be the perfect partner for an up-coming show.
